Microbial Habitability of Cryobrines on Mars
Are we alone in the universe? This fundamental and, thus far, unanswered question, that has been asked since centuries, is the main issue of the research field called Astrobiology. In this talk I will provide a short introduction into this interesting area of research. Special attention will be drawn to the microbial habitability of Martian environments. One of those environments are subzero salt solutions, called cryobrines, which might be on Mars one of the last refuges for liquid water, which is essential for life as we know it. During the talk I will present results of several lab experiments investigating the habitability of these special environments.
