The IGB scientists Thomas Mehner and Hans-Peter Grossart are honored by the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO).

Madeleine Ammar is the freshly appointed coordinator of the dissemination project focusing on "Migratory Fish".

Annika Brüning wrote her doctoral thesis on "Spotlight on fish: the biological impacts of artificial light at night" at the Leibniz Institute of Fresh Water Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB).

Light at night changes animals’ behaviour. A new study shows that moths are attracted to street lamps within a radius of approximately 23 metres.

Throughout the LakeLab experiment 2016 samples are regularly taken during day and night. For example, the team of IGB scientist Gabriel Singer gets out once a week shortly before dawn. They focus on aquatic bacteria which are responsible for the decomposition of organic material.

Sereina Rutschmann and Jens Kiesel won the Schwörbel-Benndorf Young Talent Award of the DGL. 

After returning from his postdoctoral residency at the University of Brisbane in Australia,  Andreas Jechow visited by chance the Lake Stechlin Information Center in 2012. There he saw a scale model of the LakeLab and was immediately fascinated by the research platform and the concept behind it. Now, three years later he is part of the LakeLab team and studies the light regimes in the mesocosms.

A loss of forested areas can lead to a decrease in species richness in adjacent streams. This has been shown by a team from the Leibniz-Institute for Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries in cooperation with additional partners.
