Biological diversity meets diversity of information

Since 2014 the Global Freshwater Biodiversity Atlas, developed in the BioFresh project under the leadership of IGB, provides a wide selection of interactive maps on freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity. Additionally, a new collection of thematically related atlases and databases now facilitates a more easy research of specific and spatially explicit information on aquatic biodiversity and related topics.

By combining many different online information resources, we made it easier for users to locate specific information from diverse sources. Tags and symbols indicate what kind of information is included in each Atlas and whether it is a regional, continental or global resource. The thematic spectrum ranges from species diversity, water scarcity and effects of climate change to the management of protected areas.

Vanessa Bremerich and Oliver Peters from the developer team at IGB constantly expand and update both the Global Freshwater Biodiversity Atlas and the collection of related atlases.
