Scientists from the IGB Department Chemical Analytics and Biogeochemistry defied the inhospitable April weather in order to recover the measurement instruments installed last year in Lake Iseo in Northern Italy. Michael Hupfer and his team are investigating how essential nutrients are distributed in the lake as a consequence of climate change. Due to the extreme depth of the lake – more than 250 meters – the detection of the nutrient fluxes between surface water, deep water and the sediment is no easy task. This year, further limnological studies shall be carried out to assess how nutrient changes will affect the ecological condition of the lake in the next decades.
