The American Geophysical Union (AGU), with over 60,000 members worldwide, is made up of 25 Sections, including Hydrology. The Polubarinova-Kochina Hydrologic Sciences Mid-Career Award recognises the impact of the awardees on the field, as well as their innovative interdisciplinary work, educational achievements and mentoring. It also recognises their importance to society. The award is named after Pelageya Polubarinova-Kochina, one of the pioneers of theoretical groundwater hydrology.
Dörthe Tetzlaff has established an international reputation for her pioneering research and outstanding expertise in hydrology. This is also due to her methodological depth and innovative approach in researching the complex relationships between water flows, ecosystems and human activities. Her findings are important for the sustainable use of water resources and water protection.
“This award is a great honour for me. I am grateful for the recognition of my work and delighted that my internationally relevant contributions to hydrology have been recognized”, said Dörthe Tetzlaff in an initial reaction.
