(1) Living long in the dangerous world

(2) Is it time for scientists to make their voice in the public debate?

My talk with consist of two parts. First, I will summarize my recent project: High risk of predation is generally expected to be associated with short life. Notwithstanding, the nuances of perceived risk result in finely tuned plastic shifts in longevity, not always life shortening. Second, should scientists get involved in the public debate? Over two years ago a grassroots movement of scientists began, where biologists stood up to make their voice on issues like Białowieża logging or plans of great scale river damming. In the face of global environmental changes, how detached can we scientists stay?
