BioAgora aims to connect research results on biodiversity to the needs of decision-making in a targeted dialogue between scientists, other knowledge holders and policy actors. 

The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and is an important hotspot for aquatic invasions in the Western Hemisphere. This project intends to understand better fish invasion dynamics in this major canal after its expansion in 2016.

Nature based solutions in cities can help mitigate the negative effects of future climate change and improve biodiversity and urban life.

Our current era is characterized by increasing amounts of data and information that make it increasingly hard to gain and keep an overview of research fields. To tackle this challenge and using the research field of invasion science as an example, we will develop an open and interactive navigation tool that allows to dive into the field’s research questions and hypotheses, discover relevant publications and datasets.

In this project, we will develop a prototype for an argumentation machine that supports users in and during the argumentation process in a scientific context. The goal is to enable for example fresh PhD students to develop and refine their own research hypotheses in the research field of invasion biology by referring them to the relevant scientific terminology and respective publications.

The new German-Chinese cooperation project deals with ice-covered lakes of the Tibetan and Mongolian plateaus and their reaction to climate change. The aim is to set up an international research network that will close the gap in knowledge about ice-covered lakes as important but hitherto little-studied components of the hydrological and climatic system.

Which network of protected areas could assure freshwater biodiversity and ecosystem services under present and future environmental conditions, at the lowest possible cost?
