Müggelseedamm 310, 12587 Berlin
Profile
- Aquatic Ecology, Biodiversity and Nature Conservation, with emphasis on biodiversity studies, the ecology and functioning of shallow lakes and pond ecosystems [1-5] and global change biology (cyanobacteria blooms [6], climate warming [7-8], urbanisation [9-10]
- Metacommunity ecology using zooplankton [11-12] and bacteria [13-14] as model systems, or performing integrated analyses across multiple organism groups [15-16]
- Evolutionary ecology and Stress ecology, including the study of local genetic adaptation to natural and anthropogenic stressors using spatial surveys (urbanisation [17-19]), experimental evolution (climate change [20-22]; agrochemicals [23-25]) and resurrection ecology (predation [26-28]; parasites [29]; climate change [22]), and including multi-trait and combined-stressor analyses (e.g. pollution, food stress, predators and parasites [23, 30-31])
- Ecological genomics, focusing on identifying the signature of selection along environmental gradients in nature and analysing the genomic-mechanistic underpinning of local adaptation, using the water flea Daphnia as a model system [32-34]
- Eco-evolutionary dynamics, with focus on evolving metacommunities [35]. I contributed to the rapidly growing field of eco-evolutionary dynamics amongst others through my studies on rapid evolutionary change [e.g. 26], through the development of the concept of evolution-mediated priority effects (monopolisation hypothesis [36-40], empirical research on eco-evolutionary interactions (climate change [41], cyanobacteria blooms [42], zooplankton communities [43], contributing to the development of eco-evo partitioning metrics [44] and to the idea that evolution can impact regime shifts and tipping points [45]
