Philipp Czapla received the prize of the DAFV (Deutscher Angelfischerverband e.V.: German Angling Association) for his bachelor thesis. He investigated the ecological perspective of fish stocking. His results showed that stocked adult pikes have dificulties to adapt to the new environment.
Former IGB postdoctoral researcher Valerio Sbragaglia was awarded the Francesca Gherardi Memorial Prize for his work on circadian clocks in crustaceans. His research focused on molecular control of circadian rhythms and how dominance hierarchies modulate daily activity rhythms. His research helps in characterising the molecular circadian control of crustaceans and also provides applied behavioural results useful in the stock assessment of the Norway lobster.
The doctoral thesis of Thomas Klefoth "The phenotypic correlates of individual vulnerability to angling“, was honoured with the Albrecht-Daniel-Thaer-Förderpreis. His dissertation focused on the catchability of fish. One important result: high angling pressure can lead to the evolution of shy characters. Sebastian Theis received this prize for his exellent master thesis: "Food-dependent development of behavioural types in Heterandria formosa “.
Robert Arlinghaus won the Excellence in Public Outreach Award of the AFS (American Fisheries Society). The AFS appreciated his tireless commitment to communicate his research results to anglers and the general public. The scientific publication "Should we simulate mental models to assess whether they agree?" was awarded "best paper" at the Annual Simulation Symposium 2018 (ANSS). Robert Arlinghaus is co-author of the study.
The DGL (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Limnologie: German Society for Limnology) awarded Christopher Monk with the third place of the Schwoerbel-Bendorf Young Scientist Award.
The project BAGGERSEE was voted "project of the month" in August of the initiative UN Decade on Biodiversity.
Congratulations!
