Monitoring stations

As is the case with all ecosystems, lakes are also subject to long-term developments. To enable us to recognise and understand these developments, we observe a number of freshwaters over long periods of time. IGB periodically determines limnological parameters such as temperature, visibility depth, and nutrient and oxygen content in a number of different lakes, and analyses the communities that occur there. The current measured values determined at our stations are summarised on the following pages.

Lake Müggelsee

The Große Müggelsee is located in southeast Berlin, and belongs to the urban district of Köpenick.

Lake Stechlinsee

Lake Stechlin is located in Brandenburg, and is well known for the good quality of its water. With a depth of 70 metres, it is Brandenburg’s deepest lake.

Lake Arendsee

The lake Arendsee is located in Saxony-Anhalt, and is one of the ten largest lakes in the federal state.
