"Research for the future of our freshwaters" is the motto of the IGB. We want to understand the fundamental processes in water bodies and their biocoenoses. Our research knowledge should help society and policy-makers to cope with global environmental changes (such as climate change) and to manage and conserve water-based resources and ecosystems for the benefit of people and nature.
