Alternet is a network of 26 partner institutes from 18 European countries. Originally funded by the European Union’s Framework VI program to stimulate a collaborative approach, Alternet is now operating independently as a non-profit organisation. Alternet is developing approaches to assess and forecast changes in biodiversity and its effects on ecosystems and their services, assessing the socio-economic implications and public attitudes to biodiversity loss, and finding more effective ways to communicate biodiversity issues to a wider range of audiences including politicians and decision makers.
IGB is one of the 18 partners. Sonja Jähnig is a member of the management board and responsible for the activity area “Research Projects”.
