INAS In this project, we will develop a prototype for an argumentation machine that supports users in and during the argumentation process in a scientific context. The goal is to enable for example fresh PhD students to develop and refine their own research hypotheses in the research field of invasion biology by referring them to the relevant scientific terminology and respective publications.
enKORE Our current era is characterized by increasing amounts of data and information that make it increasingly hard to gain and keep an overview of research fields. To tackle this challenge and using the research field of invasion science as an example, we will develop an open and interactive navigation tool that allows to dive into the field’s research questions and hypotheses, discover relevant publications and datasets.
Protecting the future of freshwater biodiversity and ecosystem services across Cuba Which network of protected areas could assure freshwater biodiversity and ecosystem services under present and future environmental conditions, at the lowest possible cost?
Water-ForCE Water-ForCE will bring together experts on water quality and quantity, in policy, research, engineering and service sectors to develop a Roadmap for the water component for the future Copernicus services.
Long-term development of lakes as a result of climate change In this project, the effect of climate change on the physical processes of lakes will be investigated. Several lakes with a diverse set of boundary conditions (e. g. differing mean depth or different wind exposure) will be instrumented with logger chains. They will measure temperature and oxygen in high resolution and make it possible to resolve changes in physical conditions in response to varying climatic forcing. In addition to direct measurements, numerical models can be used to reproduce water temperatures in lakes.
NAPROPERA NAPROPERA aims to reduce fish losses in aquaculture industry by improving the hygiene condition through correct application of peracetic acid (PAA)-based disinfectants. Although PAA is approved in EU for organic aquaculture production in the presence of fish, its application in aquaculture practice stays rather experimental and lacks control measures. NAPROPERA works on a solution to fill this gap.
PONDERFUL IGB (project lead Thomas Mehner) is part of a consortium that is running a new Horizon 2020 project ‘PONDERFUL’, led by the University of Vic (Spain). The project’s overarching aim is to develop improved methods for maximising the use of ponds and pondscapes in climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity conservation and the delivery of ecosystem services.
marEEshift The project studies the fisheries exploitation of the Western Baltic Cod taking the perspective of resilience and wants to help push the system towards a more desired state.
Boddenpike The project studies the ecology, use and socio-economic importance of Rügen pike and develops recommendations for sustainable management
The Evolution of Collective Intelligence: A Comparative Approach Groups of decision makers can integrate their independent informational states and outperform individuals (collective intelligence). However, the extent to which collective intelligence has been shaped by natural selection in response to ecological challenges is largely unknown.
