Besatzfisch 2.0

„Hand in hand for sustainable stocking“, that was the principle of the so called Besatzfisch (German: stocked fish) project. Scientists and Anglers investigated together the ecogological, economical and social aspects of stocking. Besatzfisch 2.0 is the follow-up project. The aim is to continue the knowledge transformation process for anglers and society. Furthermore a Software for inland fisheries managements is developed.

In Germany, angling clubs play a key role in freshwater fisheries management. A very common management tool used by anglers is fish stocking. Fish stocking describes the process of introducing cultivated or wild fish into different water bodies to support the existing fish stock or to reintroduce fish species. The aim of Besatzfisch (German: stocked fish) is to evaluate fish stocking from ecological, economic and social perspectives. Therefore, the project cooperates closely with German angling clubs. The research design of the social ecological research project is both interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary. In 2014 the German UNESCO Commission honored Besatzfisch for it’s education concept. Besatzfisch 2.0 continues the knowledge transformation process for anglers and society. Furthermore a software for inland fisheries managements was developed.
