German water research institutes with different priority areas teamed up to establish the Water Science Alliance. The disciplines involved range from the natural sciences and engineering to the social sciences. The aim of the initiative is to establish a network between university and non-university research facilities and to enhance their visibility at the national and international level. Members join forces to collaborate on overarching and transdisciplinary topics and water research issues, and present their results to politicians, business and the public. Another key focal area pursued by the Water Science Alliance is the promotion of young researchers. IGB has been a supporting member of the initiative since 2013.
