Since 1996, the Albrecht-Daniel-Thaer-Förderpreis has been awarded for special doctoral achievements and degrees at the Thaer-Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Philipp Czapla received the award for his outstanding Master's degree in the M.Sc. Fish Biology, Fisheries and Aquaculture programme, which is co-led by IGB.

Under the supervision of Profoessor Robert Arlinghaus, the former Master's student investigated how angling affects the catchability of carp. His results are not only of interest for management practice, but also prove the high cognitive performance of carp and are thus also relevant for basic research on fish ethology and cognition. Philipp Czapla now works as a research assistant at the Institute of Inland Fisheries Potsdam-Sacrow e.V. There he is involved in the development of principles and methods for good professional practice in fish stock management in inland waters. Congratulations!
