2 out of 3 at the SIL Student Competition 2020

This year’s winners of the SIL Student Competition are Fengzhi He, Mandy Velthuis and Nico Martyniuk. The International Society of Limnology (SIL) awards the prize every two years for the three best publications in the field of limnology that have emerged from a master’s or doctoral thesis in the past four years.

Fengzhi He was awarded 1st place for his article on the global decline of freshwater megafauna. He completed his doctorate in 2019 at IGB, Freie Universität Berlin and Queen Mary University of London, and is now a post-doctoral researcher in the IGB research group Aquatic Ecogeography.

Mandy Velthuis was awarded 2nd place for her work on the impacts of global warming on carbon cycling in shallow freshwater systems. Velthuis was a postdoctoral fellow at IGB from 2018 till 2020.
