Freshwater Megafauna Futures: Diversity, Functions, Threats, and Implications for Biodiversity Conservation

This project’s overall objective is to better forecast the future of invasions and their impacts worldwide.

Our aim is the investigation of regional, i.e. landscape-scale, mechanisms of carbon dissimilation in ‘fluvial metaecosystems’.

We are proud to host a number of researchers (interns, doctoral candidates, Postdocs) that come with their own funding.

A new EU regulation to address invasive species entered into force at the beginning of 2015. IGB is involved in a project run by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) in which a method is being further developed to identify invasive species that are of particular concern in Germany in the context of this EU regulation.

Our current era is characterized by increasing amounts of data and information that make it increasingly hard to gain and keep an overview of research fields. To tackle this challenge and using the research field of invasion science as an example, we will develop an open and interactive navigation tool that allows to dive into the field’s research questions and hypotheses, discover relevant publications and datasets.

Neurotoxic cyanobacteria in association with aquatic plants pose a real health threat, which could even further increase in the future.

In this DFG-funded project, we will develop experiments and theoretical models testing whether explicitly accounting for interactions between key evolutionary and community processes results in a better understanding of species and community responses to environmental change.
